Enjoy your mountain biking holiday at the Bike Park Morzine
Lying amid the French Alps, Morzine has become a favourite holiday destination of keen mountain biking fans. The area has worked hard to make itself indispensable to mountain-bikers, and there are over 600km of tracks across the area. One of the most popular locations in Morzine is its nearby bike park, one of an extremely large number in the area. There is a summer event each June, known as the Pass'portes du Soleil, which allows users to ride the whole 80km circuit which spans the Portes du Soleil and crosses between France and Switzerland. There are also other competitive mountain-biking events across the whole summer period.
If you don't want to be too adventurous, but instead want to try out your mountain-biking on your own, then you should visit the local Bike Park Morzine has to offer. The park is on both sides of the village, divided between the 'Super Morzine' or Avoriaz sector, and the Pleney. These vary in difficulty, so they are the perfect place to develop your skills before moving on to more difficult areas, or just improve your fitness during the early months of the season.
Part of a mountain-biking area known as the Avoriaz, this has 5 tracks which are well maintained and are used for downhill riding. There are also other routes which are considered to be particularly difficult, and are therefore only suitable for experienced riders. In this part of the Bike Park Morzine residents will have to know the rules to get the best out of the experience, including being able to brake evenly, and staying as low as possible to the frame of the bike. These tracks should not be tried by those without MTB experience, and the bike should also have been checked out before attempting the trails.
In this part of the Bike Park Morzine visitors will be able to follow signposted tracks which are, overall, much more comfortable to ride. These trails are designed to be for the complete beginner up to the intermediate skill level. The lift will take you to areas that are mainly for beginners, but there are some gradients and braking bumps which can make this a much harder course than necessary.
If you want to go mountain-biking in Morzine, then the bike parks in the area are fantastic, not only are the two sides of the village covered in biking trails, but nearby is Les Gets with its downhill trails for beginners, and the Kona bike park which is suitable for more experienced riders. Nearby, Mont Cherry has the World Cup track for downhill racing, but the entire space is also available for jump tracks, technical and skilled riding for mountain-bikers of all levels.
