Hi all,

I'd love to get to know all the people in this group - who you are, where you are, what you like in the way of Food And Travel, what you've already experienced.

Should I start or should I just put it out there for all of you to jump in?

Hi Dee,

Sounds like a fun idea. I'm John Burk. I own an architectural firm called Gang 2 Architects in Suwanee, GA., USA. I have been lucky enough over my life to have visited most of the US and have been to Japan, the Caribbean and some of Europe. I love to try foods especially from other cultures so am open to most everything at least once. As for travel since starting my company in 2009 I have had little time to travel. I am involved with several opportunities in various locations around the world at present and hopefully will have an opportunity to visit the locations. Most likely the travel will be to the Caribbean as I am looking at several opportunities in that region of the world at present. Love to get to know new people and look forward to meeting everyone as well.

I am only one member of this (small) group and I'm wondering: is this is the wrong group for me? I didn't join to just read ads from everyone - at least not without seeing how it works into your life stories and how you love food and travel. There are too many other sites where users post nothing but "use my company". I want to "hear my story".

Am I off base?
Hi Dee, I'm from Rome, Italy. I'm working in food, travel, digital consultancy. I really enjoy discovering food  traditions when I travel myself and I love to share in any case my passion for food along with art and culture.

We completely agree with you, Dee. Some people can't/don't/won't extend their hospitality into their social media. We like to share food & wine from our Province of Nova Scotia in Atlantic Canada. Nova Scotia has an emerging wine industry which is winning national and international awards and we enjoy sharing these wines with our international picks on our Wine Spectator award-winning wine list at our luxury property DesBarres Manor Inn. We enjoy meeting food & wine people from around the world to get new ideas to inspire our restaurant and to share the spirit of great food, wine and hospitality.

Doug,  I've never been to eastern Canada, but I think of Nova Scotia as a barren, cold land. It's beyond my ability to imagine growing wine there. LOL. I did just read/twitter today about how Canada is now the 3rd biggest wine importers (read: drinkers) in the world!

What kind of food do you serve in your restaurant?

Dee@WorldWineSafaris

We're located in Melbourne Australia and we're said to be the coffee capital and we certainly love our coffee. We also have a fantastic range of foods due to our multi cultural background. Yesterday I ate at Maha Bar which is down a little laneway serving Middle Eastern cusine. It was an amazing meal of small dishes shared with friends. Tonight I'm going to a local italian restaurant where they serve great fish. Earlier in the week I was in Sydeny and eating French and for a special occassion I love Florentinos which is also Italian.

We're also lucky to have such a diverse range of fresh produce and a number of great wine growing areas such as the Yarra Valley, Grampians Pyreness, Mornington Peninsula to name a few. I also love NZ Sauvignon Blanc which is very popular here.

YOUnique (is that your name?), friends of mine in Melbourne said that with the rain the price of produce has skyrocketed.  Has that affected restaurant prices?

Dee

Hi Dee, Looks like Nova Scotia has to work on our image as it is a very green province! Our vineyards are at roughly the same latitude as Bordeaux, so our valleys have good growing seasons. Our major varietals are lesser known within the wine industry including L'Acadie, Seyval and Vidal among our whites and Marachel Foch, Baco Noir and Leon Millot among our reds. These wines also pair nicely with the local food.

At DesBarres Manor Inn our culinary focus is contemporary Canadian cuisine with an East Coast flair. Our culinary program gets inspiration from the organic chef's gardens on our grounds as well as a network of local food suppliers including our vineyards. You can read more about our culinary program along with recipes from the DesBarres Manor Inn kitchen here: http://www.desbarresmanor.com/dining

Thank you for letting us share a bit our region and food program with you. We hope you'll be able to come up to experience it first hand.

That's right some of the prices of produce have started to rise but at the moment it hasn't affected restaurant prices. May in the future though. Yes we spelt YOUnique that way as the tag line for our tour company is "where its all about YOU" we only do small groups maximum of 6 so we can cover the major sights but include elements that interest the group. So if they like food and wine we'll focus time on that if they like art we'll add in galleries.

Ciao Dee & the rest of the group-

I am an American expat living deep in the Italian countryside. My Chef husband & I moved from NYC to Italy 4 years ago to start an organic farm, inn & cooking school. We love to eat & travel. I write the monthly column "Field to Fork" for Taste Italia Magazine sharing stories & seasonal recipes from our farmhouse. Excited to share with you information on food/recipes in Central Italy, particularly Le Marche as well as day trips, festivals, markets, etc. Check out our blog if you will be traveling to Le Marche for more info. Feel free to email with questions.

Ah, but is that YOUr name?  Feels odd feeling like talking to a company and not a person.  JMHO, of course.
